EVENTS THAT SHAPED THE SIKH HISTORY
January 2: A Shaheedi Sacrifice Squad of Sikh settlers in Canada marched from Sri Akal Takhat to participate in the Jaito Morcha (agitation) at Jaito (A.D. 1925).
January 3: Foundation stone of Sri Harmandir Sahib was laid down by Sain Mian Mir, the spiritual head of QADIRIYA order of the Sufi's (A.D. 1588, 1st Magh Bk 1645)
January 4: Gurbachan Singh, the chief of pseudo Nirankaris was acquitted by the Sessions Judge of Karnal of the charge of murder of thirteen Sikhs. (1982) Consequent upon it, the Sikhs lost faith in judiciary.
January 5: Morcha for possession of lands attached to Gurdwara Bhai Pheru (Lahore District) was launched in A.D. 1924
January 6: (a) Jathedar Gurcharan Singh 'Tohra' was elected President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee for the first time in A.D. 1973.
  (b) Martyrdom of Sardar Satwant Singh and Sardar Kehar Singh the co-accused with S. Beant Singh who had gunned down Indira Gandhi, were hanged till death in 1989, throwing to winds all legal and moral norms.
January 7: 62 Members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee were arrested from the precincts of Sri Darbar Sahib (1924). All these members were sentenced to imprisonment under Section 120, 121 (2) Indian Penal Code (Sedition) and Section 17 A and 17 B of Act of 1908 by Special order of the Governor of the Punjab.
January 8: Baba Ala Singh S/o Baba Ram Singh was born at Phul in 1691 on this day. He was the founder of Patiala State, which included Barnala, Longowal, Sunam, Bathinda besides Patiala. He expired on August 22,1765 at Patiala.
January 11: Maharaja Sher Singh and Amir Dost Mohammed Khan of Kabul met each other in A.D. 1843 and a treaty of friendship was signed between them.
