Amritsar, 5 January: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President S. Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the incident of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Bhagupur Havelian village near Ajnala in Amritsar district on Wednesday.
S. Harjinder Singh Dhami said that Guru Granth Sahib is supreme for the Sikhs, the incidents of their sacrilege gives pain to the Sikh psyche. He said that some anti-Panth people are playing with the sentiments of Sikhs but those caught in the past in cases of sacrilege were being branded as mentally ill by the police. He said that on finding out about today’s incident, former senior vice-president of SGPC S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad and Bhai Balkar Singh, Pracharak (preacher) of Dharam Prachar Committee were sent to the spot to get complete information about the incident.
SGPC President said that the culprit of the incident was with the police, from whom it is important to find out the forces working behind the incidents of sacrilege.
S. Harjinder Singh Dhami warned the government that there is a huge outcry among the Sangat (community) for its failure in exposing the real culprits of sacrilege of Gurbani. He said that the government should act according to the sentiments of the Sangat.
