Youths who could not return to New Zealand from India meets SGPC President
Amritsar, January 17:
A group of Punjabi youths who could not return to New Zealand due to COVID-19 pandemic held a meeting with Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President and sought his support in resolving the issue.
Following, SGPC President had a telephonic conversation with Bhai Daljit Singh, President of New Zealand based Sikh organisation ‘Sikh Supreme Society Auckland’ and urged him to resolve the issue. A letter was also written to Bhai Daljit Singh from SGPC side.
The Sikh youths associated with New Zealand who held a meeting with the SGPC President informed that over 800 Punjabis are facing problems as they could not return to New Zealand due to COVID-19. A large number of these people also have their family members in New Zealand.
They have been denied entry due to COVID-19 restrictions for the last nearly two years and meanwhile, the validity of visas of a large number of these persons has also expired. The youths informed that they are facing many problems related to this issue and their family members residing in New Zealand are also going through mental anguish.
After holding discussion with these Sikh youths, SGPC President coordinated with the Supreme Sikh Society of New Zealand, active as a big Sikh organisation there and urged them to help these affected youths. During the conversation, Bhai Daljit Singh of Supreme Sikh Society assured the SGPC President that he is serious for resolution of this issue and making efforts that the youths who went to India return at the earliest. He informed that the discussion with the government on this issue is ongoing.
Meanwhile, SGPC President also wrote a letter to the President of Sikh Supreme Society and made an appeal to make a concerted effort to coordinate with the government to ensure that the Sikh youths are reunited with their family members.
