400th Prakash Purab centenary celebrations will be held on April 29, 30 and May 1 Suggestion given to Prime Minister to set up world-level Vishav Shanti Kendra on lines of UNO: Bibi Jagir Kaur

Amritsar, April 15: The centenaries related to the Sikh history are celebrated with Khalsai grandeur by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in association with the sangat. The centenary of the 400th Prakash Purab (birth anniversary) of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is also being celebrated by the SGPC with Khalsai grandeur, said SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur while interacting with the media at her office on Thursday. SGPC president said that the centenary celebrations related to 400th birth anniversary of the ninth Guru would be held by the SGPC on April 29, 30 and May 1. While talking about her recent video conferencing meeting held on April 8 with Prime Minister (PM) Shri Narendra Modi with regards to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “I have given some suggestions as the head of the organization representing the Sikh Panth. The journey of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji starts from Guru Ke Mahal, Sri Amritsar. After Guru Nanak Sahib, the ninth Guru made a long journey. I have requested the Prime Minister to set up monuments at the shrines of Guru Sahib. The martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji was for the protection of freedom of religion, integrity and human rights. Therefore, a suitable monument dedicated to the ninth Guru Ji should be constructed which should be an example in the world from which future generations can take guidance.” “I have given a suggestion that the Government of India should establish a Vishav Shanti Kendra (World Peace Centre) on the lines of the United Nations Organization (UNO), in the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, to turn the world towards harmony and universal cooperation”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur. “It was suggested to the Prime Minister that a chapter on the life of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib should be included in curriculum of all the state school boards in India, especially in the NCERT (national council of education research and training) books. In order to avoid differences in the chapters related to the Sikh Gurus and Sikh history, a representative of the SGPC should be permanently included in their scrutiny committee so that clear and true knowledge of Sikh philosophy and history may be imparted to the students”, said the SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur. She said that it was also urged to the PM that the Gurbani (holy writings) of the ninth Guru should be translated in all the Indian language, as well as in the prominent international languages and it should be made available in the world-class libraries and universities. Bibi Jagir Kaur said that it was also urged to the PM to declare a day as a human rights day dedicated to the ninth Guru and the Government of India should write to the UNO for its global recognition. She said that she has also talked in the meeting that to take forward the message of peace, religious freedom and communal harmony of the ninth Guru, among the representatives of people at the international level, the Government of India should make efforts to include a Sikh representative at UNO. Bibi Jagir Kaur said she also appealed to the PM to reopen Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor which was closed due to Covid-19. Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the government was asked to issue coin, envelope, and postage stamp on the occasion of the centenary of the ninth Guru, for which designs have been sent by the SGPC. She said that a delegation would soon meet the Prime Minister to hold discussion on the Sikh issues.
