Amritsar, December 29:

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly condemned the mention of caste with the name of Gurdwara Sahib in Chaunda village of Amargarh constituency.

In a press statement issued from the SGPC office, assistant secretary media, S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas said, “The Sikh gurus preached universal communion by eradicating the leprosy of caste and caste-based discrimination from the society. But even today, some people are dividing the society into castes due to their scanty mentality.”

S. Ramdas said in the recent case, the sentiments of Sikhs have been hurt by writing the Gurdwara Sahib as SC (Scheduled Caste) Gurdwara in Chaunda village in Amargarh constituency.

“While the officials of the block development and panchayat department are responsible for this incident, the MLA who participated in the inauguration function is equally responsible for this divisive act in the society”, said S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas.

He appealed to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to take stern action against such people who are creating divisions in the society.
