Amritsar, June 15: The Parkash Gurpurb (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib, the sixth Sikh Guru (master) and father of Miri-Piri was today celebrated with devotion at Sri Akal Takht Sahib by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) with the support Sangat.

Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh and prominent personalities were present on this occasion. After the bhog (concluding ceremony) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, hazuri raagi jatha of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib connected the Sangat with Gurbani Kirtan.

While addressing during the Samagam (congregation), Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh shared the life history of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib with the Sangat.

Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that the sixth Guru during his release from Gwalior Fort had also got 52 Hindu Rajahs released from the jail and that is why the Guru is called as Bandi Chhorh Data (Giver of release to prisoner).

“In present days, many Sikhs are imprisoned in different jails, who have served more time in jails than the imprisonments given to them by the courts. Sadly, due to vote bank politics for bagging votes of majority, the Bandi Singhs (imprisoned Sikhs) are not being released by the governments. For getting these Sikhs released, there is a need to unite the Sikh power”, said Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.

The Jathedar appealed to the Qaum to unite and said that if the Sikhs remained divided, then it would be difficult to resolve Sikh issues.

Congratulating the Sangat on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the sixth Guru, Jathedar inspired the Sangat to walk on the Guru’s teachings. Meanwhile, Jathedar Raghbir Singh also shared his views with the Sangat.

Those present on this occasion included head granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Malkeet Singh, SGPC additional secretary S. Partap Singh, assistant secretary S. Sakatar Singh, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib S. Sulakhan Singh, honorary secretary of Secretariat, Sri Akal Takht Sahib S. Gurmeet Singh, superintendent S. Malkeet Singh, in-charge S.
