Main event of centenary to be organised with Panthak traditions on August 8

Amritsar, August 7:

The centenary congregations dedicated to 100 year of Morcha Guru Ka Bagh that was started in the year 1922 at the historical Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh, Ghukewali in Amritsar district, continued on day two as well.

This historical Gurdwara associated with fifth and ninth Sikh Gurus started yesterday. 

The main congregation of the centenary will be held tomorrow on August 8 with Panthak traditions and grandeur and the Sangat has great enthusiasm for the same.

Today as part of the second day’s events, religious diwans were organised at Diwan Hall of Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh and a grand Kirtan Darbar was held in the evening.

In the Kirtan Darbar, hazuri raagi jathas Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib including Bhai Jarnail Singh Kuharka, Bhai Karaj Singh, Bhai Shaukeen Singh performed the Gurbani Kirtan and connected the Sangat (congregation) with divine Gurbani and head granthi of Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib Giani Harpal Singh did katha (discourse) about Morcha Guru Ka Morcha and Sikh History. He shared his views about incomparable sacrifices made for the Sikh Qaum (community) by struggling Sikhs. He said that the history of Sikh Qaum is very important to understand the values of Dharam (righteousness). Giani Harpal Singh described the Sikhs who bravely participated in the Guru Ka Bagh Morcha as valiant warriors of the Qaum and appealed to take inspiration from their lives. Giani Harpal Singh also encouraged the Sikh youth to imbibe the values of Sikh faith in their lives. 

Before this, in the Diwans decorated since morning, the dhadi and kavishar jathas (balladeer and poetry groups) of the Sikh community connected the Sangat with the history of the Morcha Guru Ka Bagh and preachers and kathawachak (discourse narrators) also shared their views.

Meanwhile, during the Amrit Sanchar (initiation ceremony) held on this occasion, 295 persons got initiated (took Amrit) the Amrit, and they were provided Kakaars (five symbols of faith) by SGPC’s Dharam Prachar Committee. In view of the centenary events, the Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh was decorated with colorful and beautiful lights.

Those present on this occasion included SGPC executive committee member S. Jodh Singh, member Bibi Swaran Kaur, S. Kuldeep Singh, member of the Itihas Research Boards S. Harvinder Singh Khalsa, Punjab cabinet minister S. Kuldeep Singh, SGPC additional secretary S. Paramjit Singh, S. Pratap Singh, S. Bijay Singh, assistant secretary media S. Kulwinder Singh, S. Balwinder Singh, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib S. Sulkhan Singh, assistant secretary S. Harjit Singh, S. Gurmeet Singh Buttar, S. Harjinder Singh, S. Nirvail Singh, S. Gurcharan Singh, S. Paramjit Singh Dunia Majra, S. Satnam Singh, S. Kuldeep Singh, superintendent Malkeet Singh Beharwal, and the Sangat were present.

Nagar Kirtan dedicated to centenary reached Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh from Gurdwara Baba Buddha Sahib,  Ramdas

The Sangat is enthusiastic regarding the 100 Year Centenary of Morcha Guru Ka Bagh. While the pilgrims are attending the ongoing events, a special Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) dedicated to the centenary started from Gurdwara Baba Buddha Sahib, Ramdas and reached Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh. On reaching here, Nagar Kirtan was warmly welcomed  by SGPC executive committee member S. Jodh Singh, assistant secretary S. Kulwinder Singh, S. Balwinder Singh, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib Sri Amritsar S. Sulkhan Singh, manager of Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh S. Jagjit Singh and others were present. S. Jagjit Singh, manager of Gurdwara Baba Buddha Sahib Ramdas who arrived with the Nagar Kirtan said that there was great enthusiasm in the Sangat towards the Nagar Kirtan and the Sangat from different villages welcomed the procession. He said that langar and tea and water were arranged by the Sangat at various places. During Nagar Kirtan, where the Sangat expressed their respect by offering Rumala Sahib to Sri Guru Granth Sahib, they also offered siropao (robe of honour) to Panj Piaras (five beloved ones) and Nishanchi Singh (flag bearers).

SGPC assistant secretary media S. Kulwinder Singh said that the main event of the centenary tomorrow is being held on a grand scale, which will be attended by granthi Singhs of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, Jathedars of Takhts, prominent personalities of the Sikh Panth, kathawachaks, ragis, kavishars and dhadis poets will attend. He appealed to the Sangat to connect with their history by attending this historic occasion.
