6-day workshop started to depict history of centenaries through paintings

30 artists to make paintings based on incidents related to centenaries

Amritsar, July 12:

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today commenced the events dedicated to 100 year centenaries of Guru Ka Bagh Morcha and Saka (massacre) Sri Panja Sahib, with the inauguration of a painting workshop.

This workshop has been organised at the administrative block of SGPC office, which will conclude on July 17. During this workshop, 30 artists from different places will be making paintings to depict the incidents related to Guru Ka Bagh Morcha and Saka Sri Panja Sahib, which will be later displayed in an exhibition during the centenary Samagams (congregations).

On the occasion of inauguration of this painting workshop organised to depict different aspects of the Sikh history, SGPC President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh said that the Guru Ka Bagh Morcha and Saka Sri Panja Sahib are important pages of Sikh history and their 100 year centenary will be observed at a large scale.

He said during both these centenaries, while different Samagams will be organised, an arrangement for a painting workshop has also been made under the supervision of historian S. Harwinder Singh Khalsa.

“With this workshop, the history related to both these events will be highlighted through paintings and these will be brought before the Sangat through exhibitions at different places”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

SGPC President announced that video documentaries of the paintings to be prepared in the workshop would also be produced, so that the new generation could be connected to the history of both these centenaries through modern means of communication.

SGPC President also said that the families of the martyrs of these Sakas are also being approached as the SGPC wants to honour them during the centenary Samagams.

He informed that events dedicated to Guru Ka Bagh Morcha centenary will be organised from August 6 to 8, in which, various Samagams would be held. Similarly, preparations are underway for the events related to centenary of Saka Sri Panja Sahib, which is to be observed on October 30 and process was initiated for organising Samagams dedicated to this centenary in Pakistan.

Shahbaz Singh, superintendent S. Malkeet Singh, S. Gurnam Singh and more officials were present.
