Students of Shaheed Sikh Missionary College organise 18-day Gurmat training camps in different villages

Every year, the Dharam Prachar Committee (DPC) of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) organise Gurmat (teachings of Sikh Gurus) training camps to give knowledge of Gurbani, Sikh history and Sikh Rehat Maryada (code of conduct) to the children.
Under this initiative, with the support of Attari constituency’s SGPC member S. Mangwinder Singh, the students and staff of Shaheed Sikh Missionary College, Sri Amritsar organised Gurmat training camps in 17 villages of this area.
During these 18-day Gurmat training camps, the students and teachers of Shaheed Sikh Missionary College provided the training and knowledge to children about Gurbani santhia (lessons on grammar & correct recitation), Sikh history, Rehat Maryada, Kirtan, information about Tabla besides turban tying and Gatka (Sikh martial arts) training.
While the Gurmat classes were organised in the Gurdwara Sahibs, the children were given knowledge about history and Gurmat principles.
The students of the college inspired the Sangat to connect to Gurbani after running a door to door campaign in the villages and also distributed the religious literature published by SGPC. During these camps, about 100 children and youths resolved to become sabat soorat (Sikh appearance having unshorn hair).
On the conclusion of the Gurmat training camps, the SGPC yesterday organised a Gurmat Samagam (religious congregation) at Gurdwara Sanh Sahib, Basarke Gillan, which was attended by SGPC member S. Mangwinder Singh, Dharam Prachar Committee assistant secretary S. Balwinder Singh, head granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Malkeet Singh, Principal of Shaheed Sikh Missionary College Bibi Manjit Kaur and many prominent personalities.
The children who participated in the Gurmat training camps were also honoured by the dignitaries.
In the Amrit Sanchar (initiation ceremony) organised on this occasion, about 100 people got the blessing of the Amrit.
Those present on this occasion included Giani Nishan Singh, Prof Amarjeet Singh, Prof Ravel Singh, Prof Kulraj Singh, Bhai Dilpreet Singh, pracharak Bhai Amar Singh, Bhai Inderjit Singh, dhadi Bhai Gurpreet Singh, Bhai Baldev Singh and a large number of Sangat.
