Amritsar, May 25:

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh asked the Punjab Government to make serious efforts to stop the conversion of Panjab University, Chandigarh to a Central University.

SGPC President said that the interests of Punjab should have been taken up in the Hon’ble High Court in the case of Panjab University, in which, the Punjab Government seems to be failing.

“Panjab University should not be converted to a Central University at any cost and the Punjab Government needs to be more serious in this matter. The Government should consult the matter with senior advocates and take it forward to preserve the heritage of Punjab”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

SGPC President said that earlier the anti-Punjab decision of the Union Government to impose Central service rules on the employees of the Chandigarh administration had come to the light and now it appears that in the case of converting Panjab University to a Central University, this university is being snatched away from Punjab. He said the robbery on the rights and interests of Punjab is intolerable and therefore, the Punjab Government should be serious about the concerns related to Punjab.
