Government should immediately release Sikhs who served sentences more than life imprisoner: S. Harjinder Singh

Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib held at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall

Amritsar, April 30:

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) held ardas (prayer) for the release of Sikh prisoners who are lodged in different Indian jails for the last three decades, after the bhog (concluding ceremony) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall today. On this occasion, SGPC President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh, SGPC members, and prominent personalities attended the congregation.

Addressing during the ardas samagam (prayer congregation), SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh said it is an expression of anti-Sikh mentality governments for not releasing Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, Prof Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and other Sikh prisoners, despite the fact that they have spent more time than the life imprisonments in Indian jails.

“The governments should understand that these Sikhs had taken such steps in view of the circumstances as the holy shrines of the Sikhs were being targeted by the government at that time. No true Sikh can tolerate an attack on his shrines and community”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

SGPC President said that the Guru Sahib is authority and the ardas request of the Sikh Panth would surely be accepted.

Meanwhile, SGPC President also appealed to the government to take concrete steps to control people who are inciting communal hatred in Punjab. S. Harjinder Singh said the government should take strict action against those who are spreading false propaganda against the Sikh community so that the atmosphere of Punjab remained peaceful.

On this occasion, Giani Gurminder Singh, Granthi Singh of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib also addressed the gathered Sangat.
