– Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s non-serious approach towards Sikh affairs condemned in sub-committee meeting

– Report of matter so far will be sent to Sri Akal Takht Sahib – Bhai Khalsa, Bhai Mehta

Amritsar, March 14- The sub-committee formed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib to resolve the issue of hunger strike by Bhai Amritpal Singh, other Sikhs detained in Central Jail Dibrugarh and their families in Amritsar, against the government, was held today at the office of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The meeting was attended by SGPC junior vice president S. Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, general secretary Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, member Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Dr Sukhpreet Singh Udoke and S. Ajmer Singh. 

Giving information about the meeting, SGPC junior vice president Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa and general secretary Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta said that the matters related to the detained Sikhs have been seriously discussed. They said that in view of the seriousness of the matter, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shri Bhagwant Mann was requested to give time for meeting the sub-committee, but even after one request letter and two reminders since March 9, the government did not give any meaningful response. 
They said that in the meeting of the sub-committee today, it was felt that the non-serious approach of Punjab CM towards Sikh affairs is very unfortunate, which is not in the interests of the state. Addressing the media after the meeting Bhai Khalsa and Bhai Mehta said that keeping in mind the daily deteriorating physical condition of Sikhs detained in Dibrugarh Jail Assam, Amritsar Jail Punjab and their protesting family members at Amritsar’s heritage street, as per the directions from Sri Takht Sahib, it has also been decided to provide all kinds of cooperation to the Panthic gathering called at heritage street on March 17.
They said that according to the directions of SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, on behalf of the sub-committee SGPC member Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka to join the Panthic gathering and Dr Sukhpreet Singh Udoke has been asked to manage the the stage there. Apart from this, it has been asked to keep the entire event in discipline and run the same in a time bound manner. 
They said that the Sikh body, SGPC remains supportive on Panthic matters and will continue to support it in the future. Apart from this, ethical and financial support from the SGPC will also continue as before to the families of detained Sikhs. They said that keeping in mind the anti-Sikh attitude of the governments, the community should rise above the organizational factions and express mutual unity, seriousness and foresight. They said that the report on the meetings of the sub-committee so far and the current status of the matter will be sent to Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
