Responsibility given to Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka to ascertain status of cases & legal aide

Amritsar, December 27: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka today held a meeting with Delhi based Sikh leader Kuldip Singh Bhogal who is active for the justice to victim families of 1984 Kanpur Sikh Genocide in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and for the punishments to accused persons. Advocate Sialka held a discussion with S. Bhogal about the status of ongoing court cases related to Kanpur.

On the request from S. Bhogal, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami has entrusted the responsibility upon Advocate Sialka for legal support in this matter. In the Kanpur Sikh Genocide, 127 Sikhs were killed, for which, the Sikh community has been continuously demanding justice. About his meeting with S. Bhogal to obtain latest status of the cases and in view of the legal contribution of the SGPC on this issue, Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka said that although the SIT was formed by the UP government about four years ago and many arrests have been made, but all the accused have not been arrested yet.

Advocate Sialka said that according to Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, more than 70 people are accused in 1984 Kanpur Sikh Genocide cases while only 34 accused have been apprehended so far. He said that the accused at large are trying to get bail due to the laxity of the public prosecutors, due to which the Sikh families of the victims are going through mental agony. He said that one of the main accused, Jujwinder Singh Kushwaha, who is the nephew of a Congress leader, is influencing the cases with his influence. He said that SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has assigned the duty on behalf of the Sikh body to ascertain the current status of the cases, so that legal assistance can be provided to the victim families.

Meanwhile, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami has said that the Sikh Genocide of 1984 is extremely painful, for which every accused must be punished. He said that the SGPC feels the pain of victims and accordingly has assigned the task to Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka for legal assistance to ensure the punishment to culprits of the Kanpur Sikh Genocide and to stand strongly against their bails.

SGPC President said that as per the report of Advocate Sialka, legal assistance will be ensured by taking the opinion of legal experts.
