Meeting to be held soon with Prime Minister Narendra Modi: Advocate Dhami
Amritsar, December 9- The first meeting of the five-member high-level committee formed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib to hold talks with the Centre government on the issue of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana and other Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners) was held here today at the headquarters of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
The meeting was attended by SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee President Harmeet Singh Kalka, managing editor of Ajit Publishing Group Barjinder Singh Hamdard, Bhai Rajoana’s sister Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana and senior Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha.
After holding serious discussions in the meeting which lasted for more than two hours, speaking to the media, Harjinder Singh Dhami said that it has been decided to hold talks with the Centre Government about Bhai Rajoana and other Sikh prisoners. In this regard, a letter is being written to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to give time for a meeting with this committee formed by Akal Takht Sahib. He said that in the initial meeting of this committee, it has been decided to negotiate with the Government of India on the issue of Sikh prisoners in a friendly atmosphere and further steps will be taken in this direction.
Harjinder Singh Dhami said that every step will be taken according to the valuable suggestions of the committee members and we want the talks with the government to go ahead in a good atmosphere in the case of Sikh prisoners. The SGPC President said that efforts will be continued democratically to ensure the protection of the human rights of Sikh prisoners.
The SGPC President said that this committee is representing Sri Akal Takht Sahib and every member of it has expressed commitment to perform their responsibility with sincerity. Every member has the feeling that the case of Sikh prisoners must reach a conclusion and hopes that it will be successful. He also appealed to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah to take the initiative to resolve the cases of Sikh prisoners by understanding the Sikh sentiments.
During the press conference, SGPC member Bhai Ram Singh, Sikh leader Bhai Jasbir Singh Ghuman, SGPC secretary Partap Singh, OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Jaswinder Singh Jassi, Shahbaz Singh, Paramjit Singh, Harbhajan Singh Vakta were present.
