Amritsar, December 11- All the Gurdwara management committees of Calcutta have expressed their commitment to stand with the
Supreme Sikh body, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) at all levels by passing a resolution against the moves to weaken and break SGPC. This resolution was passed during a special Gurmat congregation held at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Calcutta, which was approved by the Sangat resonance of Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akal.
On this occasion, SGPC General Secretary Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal and executive member Paramjit Singh Khalsa were specially present, who thanked the Sikh leaders of Calcutta for the special resolution in support of the SGPC to strengthen it. In the resolution passed during this event, it has been said that the SGPC is the Supreme body of Sikh community, all the Gurdwara management committees are committed to its strengthening. The resolution said any effort to weaken SGPC is a move to weaken Sikh community and therefore, the management committees and Sangat of Calcutta are with the SGPC.
On this occasion, all the gurdwara managements also expressed their commitment to participate and propagate the signature campaign started by the SGPC for the release of Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners) in the entire state.
Addressing on this occasion, SGPC general secretary Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal said that the commitment of the Sangat of Calcutta towards SGPC, is of great importance, for which he is grateful. He said that along with the great participation in India’s freedom struggle, Sikhs have rendered important services for human welfare all over the world, but it is a pity that the governments do not pay attention to the issues of Sikhs. The governments of the country are adopting a negative attitude towards the Sikhs. He said that the most important Sikh issue of the present time is the release of Sikh prisoners, towards which India and the respective state governments are not doing justice. He said that now a mass movement has been started in the entire country and the governments will listen to the demand.
During his address, SGPC general secretary announced on behalf of SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami to provide religious literature worth Rs 1 lakh to Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha. Along with this, on the occasion of the upcoming 150th year of the Singh Sabha Movement, the SGPC also assured to cooperate at all levels.
On behalf of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, state cabinet minister Farhad Hakim honoured SGPC office-bearers, who especially attended the congregation. At this time, various constructions done at Gurdwara Sahib were also inaugurated.
On this occasion, among the office bearers of various Gurdwara Committees those present included Satwant Singh Kamalpur, Tejinder Singh Walia, Bachan Singh Saral, Satpal Singh, Avtar Singh Ramuwalia, S. Taranjit Singh Narula, Ajit Singh, Sardar Buta Singh, Inderjit Singh Purba, Devinder Singh, Dheeraj Singh, and Bhupinder Singh.
