Amritsar, December 3:

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) strongly condemning the participation of anti-Panth Nurmahalis in the Gurmat Samagam (religious congregation) dedicated to Prakash Gurpurb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev organised by Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, demanded that he should be summoned to Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

SGPC senior vice-president Harbhajan Singh Masana, junior vice-president Bhai Gurbakhsh Singh Khalsa and general secretary Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta said that recently Sikh sentiments have been hurt by Iqbal Singh Lalpura for giving on stage preference to Nurmahalis during a Gurmat Samagam at his home in Delhi. They said such an act by Lalpura is not acceptable.

In this regard, the SGPC leaders appealed to Giani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to summon Iqbal Singh Lalpura to Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He said that in the year 2002, Sri Akal Takht Sahib has ordered the Sikh world to stay away from Nurmahlias because they committed the crime of insulting the Sikh Gurus and Sikh principles. In violation of this order of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Iqbal Singh Lalpura has given proof of being anti-Panth. Therefore, religious action should be taken against Lalpura, they said. The office bearers of SGPC have also demanded accountability of Raagi jatha who performed Kirtan during this congregation and of Granthi Singh who performed the service.
