Regarding issue of Sindhi Sikhs, SGPC delegation to visit Indore on January 29 – Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee

On recommendations of Dharam Prachar Committee, 6 more members added to International Sikh Advisory Board

Amritsar, January 28:

A high-level delegation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will visit Indore on January 29, to discuss and resolve the issue of Sindhis with local Sikhs and leaders of Sindhi society. This decision was taken during the Dharam Prachar Committee (DPC) meeting of SGPC at Amritsar on Saturday.

After the meeting, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that in the recent past, there were incidents of some people taking away saroops (scriptures) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib from the homes and shrines of Sindhi Sikh families in Indore. He said the SGPC has been serious about this issue since it came to light.

He said although some pracharaks (preachers) active at the local level were sent to meet the Sindhi Sikhs, but now a high-level delegation of the SGPC is also being sent on a two-day visit to Indore on January 29, to resolve this issue. He said this delegation include SGPC’s DPC members Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhyasi and Sukhwarsh Singh Pannu, additional secretary Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, Chhattisgarh Sikh Mission in-charge Bhai Gurmeet Singh, and writer of SGPC’s Information Technology Department Jaskaran Singh.

SGPC President said the Sindhis are an important part of the Sikh community, whose devotion to Sri Guru Granth Sahib will not be allowed to be hurt.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the number of members of the International Sikh Advisory Board (ISAB) formed by the SGPC’s executive committee on Friday has been increased as per the recommendations of the DPC. He said that earlier the ISAB’s 13 members were announced, in which 6 more members have been added and now a 19-member ISAB has been constituted.

He said that among the new members of ISAB include Bhai Mahender Singh Guru Nanak Nishkam Sevak Jatha, UK; prominent kathawachak Giani Gurbaksh Singh Gulshan, UK; Bibi Inderjit Kaur Khalsa, USA; Raghbir Singh Subhanpur, USA; Master Mahinder Singh, New York, USA; and Karamdeep Singh Bains, Yuba City, USA.

SGPC President gave information about setting up camps in every constituency under the signature campaign for the release of Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners) and said that this work is being done through pracharaks. He said that in the next few days the signature campaign will be at its peak and lakhs of people will participate in it. He said that discussions are also being held with the members of the ISAB to fill signature campaign proformas online.

Meanwhile, Harjinder Singh Dhami strongly criticized activities of Dera Sirsa head Ram Rahim and demanded that he be sent to jail immediately. He said that according to reports, he will address Salabatpura gathering online on Sunday. He termed it as an act of spoiling the peaceful atmosphere of Punjab. He said that the Punjab government should stop it immediately.
