Instead of giving due rights to farmers, government doing excesses – Harjinder Singh Dhami

Amritsar, August 22:

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the cane charge by the Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab on the farmers at Longowal and expressed his condolences to the family of the farmer who lost his life. He said that this action is painful and against the responsibility of the government towards the people.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that after the situation caused by the natural calamity flood in Punjab, farmers’ bodies are continuously struggling for their rightful demands, and the SGPC also supports the same. He said that on the one side farmers are suffering heavy loss of crops due to flood and on the other hand the government is doing excesses on them. He said that the registration of cases under serious offenses against the struggling farmers at Longowal is condemnable action, which the government should withdraw immediately.

The SGPC President said that farmers provide food for the entire country and the farmers of Punjab have always served humanity generously even during natural calamities. He said that the government is committing excesses against the farmers instead of giving them their due rights. He said that Punjab is an agriculture-based state where large population is engaged in this occupation. The current Aam Aadmi Party government, which made many promises to the farmers during the elections, is now running away from fulfilling their rightful demands.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that it is the responsibility of the government to work for the uplifting the agriculture that strengthens the economy of the state, but the government is suppressing the farmers by running away from its responsibility. The SGPC President expressed commitment that the Sikh organization will provide all possible support to the struggling farmers if needed.
