SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami holds meeting with various Federation leaders

Amritsar, December 7 –The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami held a meeting with the representatives of different All India Sikh Students Federations regarding the case of commutation of the death sentence of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana and his release including that of the other Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners). During this meeting, the Federation leaders expressed their commitment to fully participate in the protest to be held by the SGPC in Delhi on December 20 regarding the Sikh prisoners. Addressing the gathering, various Federation leaders said that the issue of Sikh prisoners including Bhai Rajoana is a community’s common issue, in which the federation will play a leading role.

Speaking after the gathering, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that a big protest is being held in Delhi on December 20, 2023, as part of the efforts being made by the SGPC regarding the commutation of death sentence to life imprisonment and release of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana and other Sikh prisoners, for which, all the representative leaders of the Federation have given an assurance of full cooperation.

He said that in today’s meeting of the Federation leaders, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana was strongly requested to end his hunger strike by adhering to the decision made by Akal Takht Sahib yesterday. He said that the entire Panth is with Bhai Rajoana and in today’s meeting of the Federation leaders, commitment has been expressed to intensify the struggle in this regard.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that in the meeting of the Federation leaders, a positive idea of unity among all the federation sides has also come out, for which responsibility and rights have been given to him (SGPC President). He said that this is a good idea and work will be done to implement the same. He said, “Because, in the present time, it is great need of the time to unite the power of community, making efforts differently. The series of meetings will be continued regarding the December 20 Delhi protest and under this, talks will be held with Panthic organizations as well as all parties of Akali Dal and farmers’ unions.”

Various leaders of the federation appreciated the efforts of the SGPC President in their address.
