Amritsar, June 20:

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the one year extension of National Security Act (NSA) imposed on Bhai Amritpal Singh elected as Member Parliament (MP) from Khadoor Sahib constituency and other Sikhs, detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh Central ail.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that after the recent Lok Sabha elections, Bhai Amritpal Singh was elected as MP from Khadoor Sahib Parliamentary Constituency by the people of Punjab by casting a large number of votes to him. But the state government led by the Aam Aadmi Party and the Centre government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party have taken this extremely reprehensible action of extending NSA on Bhai Amritpal Singh, which is not appropriate in view of human rights and it disregards the sentiments of the people of Punjab.

The SGPC President said that no such crime has been committed by these youths, that they should be locked up in jails thousands of kilometers away from the state after being termed as anti-national. He asked Punjab and Centre Governments to revoke the NSA imposed on the youths detained in Dibrugarh Jail and release them.
