– Action sought from SKAU Chancellor-cum-Haryana Governor

June 11, Amritsar-

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has expressed its objection to the distortion of Sikh Guru’s history by Vice-Chancellor of Sri Krishna Ayush University (SKAU), Kurukshetra during an event held in the university on the occasion of the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru. In this matter, the SGPC has sent an e-mail letter to the Chancellor of SKAU-Governor of Haryana, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, asking him to seek an explanation from the Vice-Chancellor of SKAU, Professor Vaidya Kartar Singh Dhiman and sought an apology from him.

In this regard, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the history of Sikhs is completely unique and original, which is being distorted under a conspiracy. It is under this phenomenon that the Vice-Chancellor of Sri Krishna AYUSH University Kurukshetra has done such an objectionable act which cannot be tolerated. He said that it is completely wrong for the VC to deliberately distort the history of the martyrdom of Sri Guru Arjan Dev and call it for the protection of Sanatan Hindu Dharma. This is an act that hurts Sikh history and principles. It is even more serious and conspiratorial if a person sitting in a responsible position does such an act, he said.

The SGPC President said that strict action should be taken against the SKAU VC as it is the duty of the responsible officials of a government institution to take care of the sentiments of any religion. He said that it is good to celebrate/mark days related to Sikh Gurus, but it should not be celebrated/marked to distort the traditions and history of Sikh faith.

The SGPC President said that this is a matter of serious investigation in which the Chancellor of SKAU and the Governor of Haryana should take strict notice. He said that the SGPC has sent an e-mail letter to the Governor of Haryana for action and if action is not taken on time, the SGPC will proceed legally.
