Amritsar, March 18:  Following an objection from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the Pakistan Government has cancelled Jashan-e-Baharan program scheduled to take place from March 23 to 27 near Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Sri Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan.

After receiving the information about the programs, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami had raised a strong objection and on his instructions, SGPC Secretary had urged to stop this program by writing a letter to Mr. Muhammad Latif, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Project Management Unit (PMU) of Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, S. Ameer Singh President of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC), and Mr. Aftab Hasan Khan Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India at New Delhi on Friday.

Following this on Friday late evening, Pakistan Government took cognizance of the SGPC objection and decided to immediately cancel the organisation of Jashan-e-Baharan program. SGPC received the information regarding the cancellation of the program through an email from CEO, PMU Mr. Latif.

Welcoming the cancellation of the program by the Pakistan Government, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami hoped that such a mistake would not be made in future.

“The decision by PMU, Sri Kartarpur Sahib to stop the program by taking the SGPC objection seriously, is in the favour of the historical significance of the shrine and the Maryada (code of conduct) of the Guru’s house. For the same, we thank the Pakistan Government and Evacuee Trust Property Board including the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee”, said SGPC President Advocate Dhami.
