Amritsar, June 25 –
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the unethical action taken by the Vigilance Bureau at the residence of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia. He termed it a politically motivated act driven by the Punjab Government’s frustration and vindictiveness.
In a statement issued today, Advocate Dhami said that in a democracy, the forceful arrest of any public leader is highly condemnable. He emphasized that Bikram Singh Majithia is not just a political figure but also holds a respected place in public life through his family and social identity. His wife, Bibi Ganieve Kaur Majithia, is a democratically elected MLA, and yet the authorities forcibly entered their home without prior notice. This, he said, reflects the government’s low and vengeful mindset.
Advocate Dhami further stated that intimidating women, misbehaving with them, and disrespecting an elected representative go against Punjabi culture and ethical values. He noted that if there was a need for investigation or questioning, proper legal procedures should have been followed. The violation of democratic and moral principles by the police and administration clearly exposes the intent of revenge on the part of the government.
The SGPC President stressed that the rule of law must prevail in the state and that misuse of power under the guise of personal grudges and vendetta should not be tolerated.
