Amritsar, July 9:
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today celebrated Miri Piri Day of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib, the sixth Sikh Guru (master) with devotion by organising a Gurmat Samagam (religious congregation) at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
The Samagam was organised by Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh, SGPC President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh, Granth of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Rajdeep Singh, and prominent personalities.
On this occasion, after bhog (concluding ceremony) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, hazuri raagi jatha of Bhai Simarpreet Singh of Sri Harmandar Sahib connected the Sangat with Gurbani Kirtan, ardas (prayer) was offered by Bhai Baljit Singh and holy hukamnama was recited by Giani Rajdeep Singh.
Congratulating the Sangat on Miri Piri Day, Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that the path shown by the sixth Guru to the Sikh Qaum (community) about the doctrine of Miri Piri is to adopt the spirituality as well as to protect the oppressed. He said that in the history of the world, people bow down to spiritual and political power. He said that the Gurus connected mankind with them with spiritual power.
The Jathedar said the sixth Guru inspired the Sikhs for spiritual power besides political power.
“The political power arises from the edge of the tegh (sword), and this is possible only when there is unity and consensus among the Qaum holding the tegh”, said Giani Harpreet Singh.
The Jathedar appealed to the Sikh Qaum by inspiring to uphold the principles bestowed upon them by the Gurus, to adopt Bani and Bana (Gurbani and traditional Sikh attire) and Sikh traditions and principles.
Meanwhile, SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh congratulated the Sikh Sangat on Miri Piri Day of the sixth Guru.
During the Samagam, the historical Miri Piri Kirpans (swords) of Guru Hargobind Sahib were also shown to the Sangat at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Those present on this occasion included Dharam Prachar Committee members Bhai Ajaib Singh and S. Sukhwarsh Singh, head granthi Giani S. Malkeet Singh, SGPC additional secretary Dr. Paramjit Singha, S. Partap Singh, assistant secretary S. Kulwinder Singh, S. Balwinder Singh, S. Tejinder Singh, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib. S. Sulukhan Singh, in-charge S. Shahbaz Singh, superintendent S. Malkeet Singh Bahirwal, Baba Major Singh, Dr. Amarjit Singh, manager Sukhraj Singh, S. Narinder Singh, additional Manager Iqbal Singh, S. Nishan Singh, S. Jaspal Singh and a large number of Sangat.
