Amritsar, April 11: Portraits of seven Sikh personalities including the two martyrs of Behbal Kalan police firing were displayed at the Central Sikh Museum situated at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib on Monday. The personalities whose portraits have been unveiled include Shaheed Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Shaheed Bhai Gurjeet Singh, both martyrs of Behbal Kalan firing by Punjab Police; Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Jathedar Harbans Singh Ghuman who made efforts for the release of Sikh prisoners lodged at Jodhpur jail; S. GS Sohan Singh who made contribution to nakashi (inset work) at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib; Sant Prithipal Singh Syed; Engineer Dr. Jaswant Singh Gill; and Brigadier S. Pritam Singh.

The portraits were unveiled jointly by SGPC President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh and additional head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh Ludhiana.

Speaking on this occasion, SGPC President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh said that those who have performed Panthak service following the footsteps of Gurmat (teachings of Sikh Gurus) are respected by the Sikh Qaum and their portraits are displayed in the Central Sikh Museum as a Panthak honour. He said that Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Bhai Gurjeet Singh, who were martyred in Behbal Kalan police firing are examples of Sikh spirit and similarly, Jathedar Harbans Singh Ghuman, Sant Prithipal Singh Syed, Engg. Jaswant Singh Gill, Brigadier Pritam Singh and S. GS Sohan Singh’s Panthak services in various fields are also not to be forgotten. He said that these personalities are a source of inspiration for the Qaum and the Sangat visiting the Central Sikh Museum would be able to get information about them.

SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh said that the SGPC, the representative body of Sikhs, sincerely respects every person who does Panthak service and will continue to do so.

Giani Jagtar Singh said that the Central Sikh Museum is a source of Sikh history and here honours are given by displaying portraits of personalities who have rendered services to Sikh faith. He said SGPC remembers those who does Panthak services and as per the decision of the SGPC executive committee (EC), portraits of seven personalities have been displayed today.

On this occasion, the Guru’s blessing Siropaos (robes of honour) were also given to the family members of these personalities.
