Government should immediately cancel parole of Dera Sirsa chief & send him to jail

Amritsar, January 25: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned Dera Sirsa head Gurmeet Ram Rahim for provoking religious sentiments of the Sikh community by cutting a cake with the religious symbol of Sikhs, Kirpan (sword). Harjinder Singh Dhami said that Dera Sirsa head is deliberately trying to spoil the peaceful atmosphere of the state by provoking religious sentiments of Sikhs and the governments are mute spectators.

He said that the Kirpan is an important religious symbol of Sikhs, the disrespect of which cannot be tolerated by Sikh community. Dera Sirsa’s head has hurt the respect of Sikh Kakaar (symbol of faith) by cutting a cake with Kirpan. He said that such a criminal who is serving a sentence on heinous charges of rape and murder is being released on parole by the government repeatedly and he is deliberately inciting the religious sentiments of Sikhs after coming out. He said that the constitution of the country teaches the respect of religious sentiments of everyone and no one has the right to hurt someone’s religious sentiments. He said that it is sad that the governments are giving special immunity to such criminals, which is not in the interest of the country. SGPC President demanded from the government that Dera Sirsa’s parole should be canceled immediately and he should be sent behind bars.
