SGPC President reacts to punishments given to Dera Sirsa followers in Malke sacrilege case
Amritsar, July 8: Advocating strict punishments to the accused involved in the sacrilege cases that took place in the past, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh has welcomed the Moga court’s conviction of Dera Sirsa followers in sacrilege case of Malke village in Moga district committed in November 2015.
Although, the SGPC President said that the accused people involved in serious cases of sacrilege should be sentenced to life imprisonment like punishments, so that no one dares to commit such a crime.
“The role of Dera Sirsa associated persons has come clear in the case of sacrilege that took place at Malke village and similarly, the special investigation report (SIT) report has exposed the role of Dera Sirsa head Gurmeet Ram Rahim and his followers in the sacrilege cases of Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari. Strict action should also be taken against Dera Sirsa head as per the investigation report”, said S. Harjinder Singh.
S. Harjinder Singh added that the government should take action to complete the necessary procedure to arrest Dera Sirsa head, so that justice could be delivered to the Sikh Sangat.
SGPC President demanded from the governments that justice should be delivered at the earliest in the cases of sacrilege of religious granths (scriptures) and punishments to accused people should be exemplary.
He demanded from the government to make provisions of life imprisonment in cases of sacrilege.
