Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha Birmingham (GNNSJB) inaugurated the Sewa (voluntary service) of repairing the gold plates and Minakari (inset work in walls and metal) inside the central Sikh shrine Sri Harmandar Sahib today.

Before inaugurating the Sewa, bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib was conducted at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, in which, the ardas (prayer) was done by Bhai Baljit Singh and the holy hukamnama was recited by head granthi of Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh.

Prominent personalities were present while inaugurating the Sewa including Giani Jagtar Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, head granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Malkit Singh, SGPC junior vice-president Principal Surinder Singh, head of GNNSJB Bhai Mahinder Singh, Bhai Inderjeet Singh, Baba Sucha Singh Qila Anandgarh, Baba Satnam Singh and others.

Speaking on this occasion, SGPC President Advocate Dhami said with the blessing of the Satguru the Sewa of Minakari and gold plates has been inaugurated inside Sri Harmandar Sahib today. He said that this Sewa has been entrusted by the SGPC to Guru Nanak Nishkam Jatha Birmingham, which will get this done under the supervision of the experts.

“The shine of gold plates inside Sri Harmandar Sahib was getting dull, due to which, this Sewa has been initiated as per the opinion of the experts. During this Sewa, the repair works will be done as per the Puratan (old) tradition and the damaged plates will be replaced”, said Advocate Dhami.

Advocate Dhami thanked Bhai Mahinder Singh, head of GNNSJB and the entire jatha and said that the Satguru has already taken great services from them.

Bhai Mahinder Singh said, “With the grace of Satguru, our jatha has been fortunate enough to serve at Sri Harmandar Sahib. The services of experts including Prof Dr Bhupinder Singh of IIT Roorkee, Kaizad Engineer of Vadodara, Shri Pankaj Dutta, material data analyst Dr Swati of IIT Bombay will be taken for the supervision of this Sewa.”

On this occasion, Giani Jagtar Singh and Advocate Dhami honoured the representatives of GNNSJB with Siropaos (robe of honour).
