Amritsar, December 21: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today held a remorse samagam for the unfortunate incident that took place at Sri Harmandar Sahib. After the bhog (culmination) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall of Sri Darbar Sahib, the hazuri raagi jatha connected the Sangat with Gurbani Kirtan and Bhai Gurcharan Singh offered ardas (prayer) for remorse. Giani Jagtar Singh, additional head granthi of Sri Harmandar Sahib recited the holy furman (edict) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

On this occasion, SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh Dhami and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal and other prominent personalities were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, S. Harjinder Singh Dhami appealed to all the Gurdwara management committees to ensure the presence of sewadars in the Gurdwaras at all times, as anti-Panth (community) forces while playing with the sentiments of Sikhs are trying to spoil the atmosphere in Punjab.

“The Punjab government has failed in the cases of sacrilege and as a result the culprits caught by the SGPC in the past could not get any punishment”, said S. Harjinder Singh Dhami.

Meanwhile, while talking to press reporters, SAD President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “The incident at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib is extremely sad. Four days back a holy Gutka Sahib was torn up and thrown in the sarowar but no truth was revealed from him even after the SGPC handed over the accused to the police. This is a major failure of the government. The special investigation team (SIT) formed by the government regarding the recent incident at Sri Darbar Sahib is also of very low standard and no outcome is expected from it. A commission of inquiry headed by a sitting or former judge should be constituted to probe this incident.”

Those present on this occasion included, SGPC executive members Bhai Harjap Singh Sultanwind, S. Gurinderpal Singh Gora, S. Amarjit Singh Bandala, SGPC member S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad, Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Bhai Manjit Singh Bhurakohna, Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal, Bhai Ram Singh, Bhai Amarjit Singh Chawla, Bhai Gurbachan Singh Karmuwala, S.
