Led by S. Harjinder Singh, SGPC members hand over memorandum to Jathedar, Sri Akal Takht Sahib
Amritsar, July 14: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded action from Sri Akal Takht Sahib against the checking of a vehicle carrying Sri Guru Granth Sahib on the occasion of the marriage event of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) S. Bhagwant Singh Mann.
A large number of SGPC members led by SGPC President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh handed over a memorandum of demand to Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh on Thursday.
On this occasion, S. Harjinder Singh said that Sri Guru Granth Sahib is spiritual guide of Sikh Qaum (community) and every Sikh gives the highest respect to the holy Gurbani.
“But during the marriage event of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the vehicle carrying the saroop (scripture) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was stopped for checking at his official residence in Chandigarh, which is an insult to the status and honour of the Guru”, said S. Harjinder Singh.
He said that the viral video in this regard on social media has hurt Sikh sentiments.
“It was even more hurtful that this incident took place at the residence of the state’s Chief Minister, who is committed to the promotion and respect of every religion. It is his responsibility to respect the religious sentiments of all religions and understand the honour and importance of religious Granths”, said S. Harjinder Singh.
