Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib should take strict action in view of seriousness of matter: Advocate Dhami

Amritsar, March 24:

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has taken a strict notice against Sikh Book Club, a United States of America (USA) based organisation, for distorting the holy Gurbani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and printing the holy saroop (scripture) and uploading its PDF (portable document file) on the website.

Taking action on the complaints received in this regard, SGPC President has appealed to Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to take strict action against the person who distorted the Gurbani.

As per the information, this act has been committed by Thaminder Singh Anand, associated with USA-based organisation Sikh Book Club, who has uploaded the concerned objectionable saroop on sikhbookclub.com website. This person has committed an unacceptable act by adding extra lagan-matravan (punctuations of Gurmukhi) and bindis (dots) by changing the original verses of Gurbani and the SGPC has immediately forwarded the case to Sri Akal Takht Sahib by taking the issue seriously.

SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has termed it as gross beadi (disrespect) of Gurbani and demanded strict action against the accused persons. He appealed to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to discuss the issue immediately and issue an order.

“No one has the right to distort or tamper with the holy Gurbani and nobody can print the holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib by themselves. The sentiments of Sikhs have been hurt by USA resident, and Sri Akal Takht Sahib should take exemplary action”, said SGPC President Advocate Dhami.

He further added that the same person Thaminder Singh Anand had been earlier booked under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of SGPC in 2014, for printing and distributing by post the holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib from China. Once again he has hurt the Sikh sentiments.

SGPC President has appealed to the Sangat that keeping in view the reverence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, USA resident Thaminder Singh Anand should be strongly opposed and the objectionable saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib being distributed by him after uploading on the website should not be downloaded and circulated.
