Amritsar, December 19: Sri Akhand Path Sahib was started by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for remorse of the incident that took place yesterday (on Saturday) at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib. Prominent personalities including SGPC President S. Harjinder were present at the start of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall.

Speaking on the occasion, SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh said that the incident which took place last evening at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, the spiritual center of all mankind, has caused deep mental and spiritual anguish to the entire Sikh community.
“The governments should expose the conspiracy behind this incident. If such incidents are not stopped then the governments would be responsible for the deteriorating environment in the state”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

SGPC President also condemned the attempt to commit sacrilege at Gurdwara Sahib at village Nizampur in Kapurthala district. He cautioned the Sangat to ensure attendance at their respective Gurdwaras at all times.
Meanwhile, the SGPC President said that the incident at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib is being investigated.
“SGPC is watching the CCTV footage, to get complete information about the arrival of the accused inside the complex of Sri Harmandar Sahib. It will also be seen whether he arrived here alone or with some accomplices”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

SGPC President lauded the alertness of the Sangat and the SGPC employees in apprehending the person who came to commit sacrilege and said that the staff posted inside Sri Harmandar Sahib has performed their duty with vigilance. He specifically mentioned that the granthi Giani Baljit Singh who was reciting Sodar Rehras Sahib did not allow any breach of code of conduct even during this difficult time and continued the recitation of Gurbani uninterrupted.

Those present at the start of Sri Akhand Path Sahib included SGPC executive committee member S. Harjap Singh Sultanwind, members Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad, S. Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal, Bhai Manjit Singh Bhurakohna, S. Gurbakhsh Singh Khalsa, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhayasi, SGPC secretary S. Mahinder Singh Ahli, additional secretary S. Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, S. Partap Singh, OSD to SGPC President S. Satbir Singh Dhami, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, assistant secretary S. Sakatar Singh, S. Tejinder Singh Padda, S. Gurmeet Singh Buttar, S. Nirveil Singh, and superintendent S. Malkit Singh Beharwal.
