Amritsar, July 4: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh today visited to know the well being of Bandi Singh (Sikh prisoner) Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera lodged in jail for the last three decades, who is undergoing treatment due to illness at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar.
He prayed for the well being of Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera and assured to provide every possible support from SGPC.
S. Harjinder Singh did some discussion with Bhai Khera and during this time, he also urged the hospital staff to make serious efforts for his treatment.
After meeting the Bandi Singh Bhai Khera, SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh said that it is violation of their constitutional rights that the governments are not releasing Sikh prisoners who are lodged in jails for three decades and many of these Sikhs have spent more time in jails than their sentences. He said Bhai Khera is also one of these Sikhs.
SGPC President said that with regards to the release of Bandi Singhs, we have written letters to the country’s Prime Minister, Home Minister and Chief Ministers of different states but so far, no meaningful response has been received.
He said that the governments should consider the issue of Bandi Singhs sympathetically and release the Singhs who have already served long sentences.
Those present with SGPC President on the occasion of knowing the well being of Bhai Khera included SGPC additional secretary S. Partap Singh, assistant secretary media S. Kulwinder Singh, manager S. Sukhraj Singh and Sikh leader Prof Baljinder Singh.
