Concern expressed over low representation of Sikh in selection of High Court judges

Amritsar, July 27:

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has criticised the appointment of Mr. Vinod Ghai as Advocate General (AG) of Punjab Government.

He said Advocate Vinod Ghai is contesting cases of Dera Sirsa head besides other controversial ones, therefore, his appointment cannot be accepted.

“Advocate General of Punjab should be completely impartial, understanding the priorities of Punjab and protecting the interests of the region. The Advocate General of Punjab should be a Sikh, as Punjab lives in the name of the Gurus (Sikh masters)”, said Advocate Dhami.

He demanded from the Governor of Punjab that the appointment of Ghai as AG Punjab should be cancelled.

Meanwhile, the SGPC President also expressed deep concern over the declining number of Sikh judges in the honourable high courts.

“There is only one Sikh among the recently selected 13 judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court”, said Advocate Dhami.

SGPC President said that the Sikh youth should work hard to achieve different high positions in the country in future, so that the Sikhs get proper representation in every field
